Description:

Last week's agent submission was a mod masterpiece overlooking the mountains surrounding Salt Lake City. On the opposite end of the spectrum, this week we're taking a tour of an elegant Civil War-era estate in Virginia, submitted by Andy Stevens of Long & Foster Real Estate.Location: Upperville, Va.Listed By: Andy Stevens of Long & Foster Real EstatePrice: $5,300,000Known as The Maples, the 60-acre property comes with a manor house, several stone outbuildings -- and an utterly fascinating past. Built in 1853 for businessman Joshua Fletcher, the estate was one of the sites of the Battle of Unison in 1862, and a bullet hole from the conflict can still be seen in the door to the kitchen. Union troops also attempted to burn down a barn on the property, yet Fletcher and his wife still took it upon themselves to shelter and nurse a wounded Union soldier. The property stayed in the Fletcher family until 1999, when it was purchased by Stevens -- the listing agent himself -- and his wife Michele.
